Midnight in Paris

Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris” is a whimsical treat for the moviegoer.  So delightful and funny in it’s celebration towards life, you can’t help but fall in love with the film.

Mitch's Golden Globe Picks

AND Mitch’s Picks to the Golden Globes are...

The 2011 Golden Globes are tomorrow Jan. 16.  Here’s my picks.  Lets see if I know what I’m talking about. Doubtful.

OUT OF THE 14 CATEGORIES, HOW MANY DO YOU THINK I GOT RIGHT?

Best Picture- Drama

Nominees- Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kings Speech, The Social Network

And the winner is... The Social Network

Amid some huge upset from "The Kings Speech" David Finchers "The Social Network" will continue to take home the best picture prize it has in so many other award ceremonies.

Best Picture- Comedy

Alice in Wonderland, Burlesque, The Kids are All Right, Red, The Tourist

And the winner is... The Kids are All Right The Kids Are All Right

This category is a joke.  If the only movie that should be there (The Kids are All Right) doesn't win then the kids are truly not all right.

Best Director

Darren Aronofsky/Black Swan, David Fincher/ The Social Network, Tom Hooper/The Kings Speech, Christopher Nolan/Inception, David O. Russell/ The Fighter

And the winner is... David Fincher for The Social Network

Nine times out of ten the Best Picture winner, usually for drama, will also win for best director.  This year should be no different.

Best Performance by an Actor- Drama

Jesse Eisenberg/The Social Network, Colin Firth/The King's Speech, James Franco/127 Hours, Ryan Gosling/Blue Valentine, Mark Wahlberg/The Fighter

And the winner is... Colin Firth for The Kings Speech.

While personally I would like to see James Franco get it all the buzz is poited in Firth's direction.  Especially with him not taking last year look for this time around for him to make his kings speech at the winners podium.

Best Performance by an Actress- Drama

Halle Berry/Frankie and Alice, Nicole Kidman/Rabbit Hole, Jennifer Lawrence/Winter's Bone, Natalie Portman/Black Swan, Michelle Williams/ Blue Valentine

And the winner is... Natalie Portman for Black SwanNatalie Portman

Can't argue with Portman.  Even though this is a strong category for sure.  Love Williams in Blue Valentine.

Best Performance by an Actor- Comedy

Johnny Depp/The Tourist, Johnny Depp/Alice in Wonderland, Paul Giamatti/Barney's Version, Jake Gyllenhaal/Love and Other Drugs, Kevin Spacey/Casino Jack

And the winner is... Who cares. If I have to pick I'll go with Paul Giamatti in Barney's Version

This is one of the weakest categories I can remember.  No one really wins here.

Best Performance by an Actress- Comedy

Annette Bening/The Kids Are All Right, Anne Hathaway/Love and Other Drugs, Angelina Jolie/The Tourist, Julianne Moore/The Kids Are All Right, Emma Stone/Easy A

And the winner is... Annette Benning for The Kids Are All RightAnnette Bening

It should be a battle between The Kids Are All Right costars.  With the more veteran Benning taking the victory.

Best Performance by a Supporting Actor

Christian Bale/The Fighter, Michael Douglas/Wall Street:Money Never Sleeps, Andrew Garfield/The Social Network, Jeremy Renner/The Town, Geoffrey Rush/The King's Speech

And the winner is... Christian Bale for The Fighter

Bale's amazing performance has the edge on Geoffrey Rush in this one.

Best Performance by a Supporting Actress

Amy Adams/The Fighter, Helena Bonham Carter/The King's Speech, Mila Kunis/Black Swan, Melissa Leo/The Fighter, Jackie Weaver/Animal Kingdom

And the winner is... Melissa Leo for The Fighter

This category is more up in the air than the others.  If it were up to me I'd vote Leo.

Best Animated Picture

Despicable Me, How to Train Your Dragon, The Illusionist, Tangled, Toy Story 3

And the winner is... Don't be silly, Toy Story 3

Enough said.

Best Foreign Language Picture

Biutiful (Mexico, Spain), The Concert (France), The Edge (Russia), I Am Love (Italy), In A Better World (Denmark)

And the winner is... I Am Love (Italy)

I enjoyed Biutiful more than most but my gut tells me Oscar Winner Tilda Swintons Itailan Stallion will take it.

Best Screenplay- Picture

Simon Beaufoy, Danny Boyle - 127 Hours, Christopher Nolan - Inception, Stuart Blumberg, Lisa Cholodenko - The Kids Are All Right, David Seidler - The King's Speech, Aaron Sorkin - The Social Network

And the winner is... Aaron Sorkin for The Social Network

Sorkin nailed a scathing and memorable screenplay that should be victorious.

Best Original Score- Picture

Alexandre Desplat - The King's Speech, Danny Elfman - Alice in Wonderland, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - The Social Network, Hans Zimmer - Inception

And the winner is... Hans Zimmer - Inception

I think this is where the Globes throw Inception a bone.  And deservedly so.  Even if you've just seen the trailer you've heard Zimmer's drum laded score.

Best Original Song- Picture

"Bound To You" – Burlesque, "Coming Home" – Country Strong, "I See The Light" – Tangled, "There's A Place For Us" – Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader, "You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me" – Burlesque

And the winner is... "I See The Light" – Tangled

Straight guessing here folks.  I saw Burlesque and did not care for the music that much so I'm hoping for a good ol' fashioned Disney princess tune to take it.

OUT OF THE 14 CATEGORIES, HOW MANY DO YOU THINK I GOT RIGHT?

Mitch's Best Films of 2010

Mitch’s Best Films of 2010

Well my friends, this is my best of the best of 2010!  Hard decisions were made and feelings were hurt (mostly my own).  Make sure that after you read my reviews of theses splendid films you take the time to watch them.   By the way, could I have chosen a creepier picture?  It screams "reaction to getting a date only becuase a neighborhood mother felt bad for me and made her daughter go out with me."  But I digress.

Enjoy!
